Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory (AIR Lab) For Secure And Efficient Systems

University of South Florida

Mission

The AIR Lab for Secure and Efficient Systems specializes in cybersecurity research and development, with a focus on incorporating machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the capabilities of cybersecurity systems in identifying and mitigating threats. The undertaken research studies aim to address the challenges posed by evolving attack vectors, AI-enabled adversarial techniques, and resource constraints faced by defending organizations.
The AIR Lab is dedicated to developing advanced ML/DL techniques and AI-enabled frameworks to ensure the security and efficiency of cyber systems. The ongoing research investigations include:
  • exploring open-world recognition systems for network intrusion detection,
  • developing deep reinforcement learning frameworks for red team evaluation of defender systems, and
  • advancing generative ML techniques to address adversarial behavior evolution.
The AIR Lab's mission is to advance the field of cybersecurity, through the research investigations, by generating new knowledge essential for safeguarding organizations from known and unknown threats. The lab's research sponsors include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DoD), and industry partners.
